A Family Tree grows in Australia, descended from Jacob Myer Isaacs: Christina Gittoes, who just got in touch with us, b. 1965, is a Licensed Property Agent & Auctioneer & Licensee In Charge and has studied Hotel Management, Marketing, Business Agent, Stock & Station Agent & Property Valuation. Attending Harvard Business School studying Urban Development, Design & Construction in 2014. Working in Worldwide International Hotels before establishing a career in the Property Industry.
Christina and Stephen Gittoes b. 1964 are Licensed Property Agents & Auctioneers for the last 30yr, working initially in Sydney and in 1991 moving 1 hour North to establish their own Central Coast Property business called GITTOES – Leaders In Property.
They have 4 children –
1) Nicholas b. 1993 attended Sydney University studying Arts Literature & Film Studies and being interested in Property is a Licensed Agent & Auctioneer in Mosman & Neutral Bay.
2) Sarah b. 1994 attended Sydney University and studied Science – Neuroscience & Physiology, and works in Neuroscience Dementia testing and Clinical Research Trials, and is completing her Communication Degree at University Technology Sydney.
3) William b. 1997 has studied Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing and works in Hospitality in Neutral Bay.
4) Hugh b. 2000 is on a Gap year working in Marketing at Neutral Bay to travel and has attained a Canadian Level 1 Ski Instructor’s Certificate.
Our interests are family, and enjoying time together traveling to new and exciting places, and enjoying extended ski holidays at our place in BC Canada.

A bit of Cambridge, New Zealand, history about the Isaacs clan: newspaper story about September 2018 ceremony with strong representation of the New Zealand Isaacs. 13 SEP 2018 • BY CLAIRE ROBSON

A small dedication ceremony marked completion of restoration of the aviation fuel bunker overlooking Lake Te Koo Utu in Cambridge, reflecting the importance of the Aviation Reserve 9 (AR9) secret bunker in the country’s military history.
Joining the mayor and other guests at the event on September 3 were representatives of the family of Richard Edward Isaacs, who was killed at the site in 1943 when fire broke out and destroyed four huts in the early hours of October 14.
Possibly due to secrecy surrounding the location of the bunker, the Isaacs family had always thought Richard died at Trentham Military Camp near Wellington, so it was news to them when community board member Julie Epps tracked them down to invite them to Cambridge for last Monday’s dedication ceremony. Just 20 when he died, the fire was apparently caused by Richard smoking in bed, which great-nephew Tom Isaacs said was a lesson to everyone not to do that.

A sad note: Judith Emily Dean, of Wanganui, New Zealand, born 01 January 1932, widow of DAVID CARGILL5 ISAACS (DAVID NATHAN4, NATHANIEL JOHN3, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1), and mother of Sarah Isaacs, Kathryn Isaacs, Prudence Isaacs and Rachel Isaacs, died 19 October 2018. She was 84.
The mother of all family trees: TIMOTHY6 LEVER (ARNOLD5, SAMUEL JOSEPH 4 LEVI, ANN 3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER 2, MYER SAMUEL 1) husband of Elaine Kelsey, resident of Pyghtle Cottage, Hall Farm, Beachampton, Bucks, UK (only in the UK), retired farmer and builder, and parent of Tamaris Lever and Samuel Lever, has created the mother of all family trees on MyHeritage. There are over 17,000 entries in his family tree that includes the Isaacs family and 15 other families. Tim will prepare an Isaacs family tree for the 19-21 June 2020 Isaacs family reunion in London, UK.
Back to the mother country: PRUDENCE (Prue) ANNA6 ISAACS (DAVID CARGILL5, DAVID NATHAN4, NATHANIEL JOHN3, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and husband Stephen Brown, who spent 2016/17 working in London, UK, moved back in March 2018 Wellington, New Zealand. Steve has retired, much to his delight, and Prue has moved to a fantastic new job as the International Student Director at a high school on Wellington.
The (really) old family home: In December 2018, Rabbi Jacobs, who performed the installation ceremony of the Isaacs plaque in honor of Samuel Myer Isaacs (1804-1878) on the ancestral family home the Isaacs moved away from in 1814 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, was back in Leeuwarden The House is now lived in by Peter DeBoer and Maaiika van Gills, who invited Isaacs family members into the house at the 2010 Isaacs family reunion. Rabbi Jacobs performed another ceremony in December 2018 and lighted the biggest chanouka of the Netherlands, temporarily put up in Leeuwarden. Leeuwarden was this year’s Cultural Capital of Europe. Peter and Maaiika contributed a winter scenery of the eleven cities of Friesland. At the time, there were many tourists in front of our house. And we saw many tourists reading the plaque.
Match made in Heaven: Catherine Ellen Gough, daughter of CLAIRE JOAN6 HARBURY (COLIN5, ESTHER MAY4 HAYSACK, BARNETT3 ISAACS, DAVID MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) , self employed partner with Telecom Plus PLC alongside working in local government organising and delivering training programmes for Adult Social Care. She married Michael Frank Panayiotis on 20 July 2018 in London, UK.
A little traveling music: Rachel Isaacs, the daughter of JOHN DAVID6 ISAACS (MYRON SAMUEL5, STANLEY MYER4, MYER SAMUEL3, SAMUEL MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Amy Isaacs, moved to Boulder, Colorado, USA, and is teaching environmental geography courses, mostly online, at the University of Colorado, Boulder, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, John Hopkins University in Baltimore and Unity College in Maine.
Doing good: KATHRYN MARY6 ISAACS (DAVID CARGILL5, DAVID NATHAN4, NATHANIEL JOHN3, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Ian Johnson had two of their children volunteering overseas and another with a degree. Geordie Johnson, a lawyer in Wellington, New Zealand, volunteered for three months at The Human Rights Law office in Delhi, India. Matthew Johnson volunteered for two years in Thailand saving and rehabilitating slaves from fishing boats. He is now studying for a Masters in International Development at Utrecht University in The Netherlands. Speaking of university, in December 2018, Tom Johnson completed his Masters from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand, in Innovation and Commercialisation.
Home sweet home: ROBYN ANNE6 ISAACS (COLIN JOHN5, DAVID NATHAN4, NATHANIEL JOHN3, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and her husband Rowan Peters, moved back to New Zealand after many years in Wales, United Kingdom.
High school sweethearts: Kristen Burdett, daughter of HELEN JANE7 SOUTHWOOD (HELEN JENNIFER6 SIMMONS, HAROLD LEWIS5, JENNIE4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and David Burdett, married Greg Hunter on 8 September 2018 in Scotland. The wedding was the first time in 18 years that Jen (Helen Jennifer) Southwood’s entire family was together. The couple have been a two-some since high school and are married after 13 years as a pair.
Match made in . . . Massachusetts heaven: Paul Toussaint, son of JANE LOUIS6 ISAACS (MYRON SAMUEL5, STANLEY MYER4, MYER SAMUEL3, SAMUEL MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Gerard Toussaint is marrying Lisa M Keyes 29 June 2019 in Quincy, MA. It will be the occasion for a large family gathering.
An expanding family: Alice Gilbert, daughter of SARAH ELIZABETH6 ISAACS (DAVID CARGILL5, DAVID NATHAN4, NATHANIEL JOHN3, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Ian Gilbert, gave birth to a daughter Angelina Muollo on 23 July 2018 and was married to her partner Anthony Muollo on 23 February 2019.
Unhappy news, but great genes: Judith Emmi Gilbert (nee Harwood), wife of ANTHONY DAVID6 GILBERT (GILBERT FREDERICK5 ISAACS, FREDERICK4, MYER LEWIS3, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1), lost both her parents in the past year. Both died in early 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland, where they had moved. Judy’s mother Ruth Frida Harwood died on 3 January 2018 aged 92 and her dad, Walter Harwood, died on 2 February 2018 aged 93. In a happier milestone, Judy herself celebrated her 70th birthday last year.
Intelligence, real and artificial: In 2018, Jacob Lever, son of Sam and Catherine Lever (TIMOTHY6, ARNOLD5, SAMUEL JOSEPH4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) achieved a First in his Masters Degree in Artificial Intelligence. The family is super-proud of him!
Chattanooga choo-choo (1941 song): May 2018, Tamaris Lever (TIMOTHY6 LEVER, ARNOLD5, SAMUEL JOSEPH 4 LEVI, ANN 3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER 2, MYER SAMUEL 1)and her partner Andy Gooday travelled to Chattanooga for the wedding of Andy’s cousin, Paul Gooday, and Natalie Hughes. 35 people on Paul’s side of the family travelled to Chattanooga from South Africa, Swaziland, Europe and UK. It was a lovely family reunion; Andy hadn’t seen his Aunt Tabile (Paul’s Mum) for 17 yrs! Andy and Tamaris also spent a few days in New York enjoying the delights of the Big Apple.
Big family gets bigger: Bar mitzvah of Kathryn (JOYCE JULIA LEAH5 LIPKIN, ESTHER4 LICHTENSTEIN, JULIA3 ISAACS, DAVID MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Elliot Berman’s grandson Boaz Moshe Berman third son of Jonathan and Shoshana coming up 23 March 2019 in Kfar Adumim, Israel.
It was worth the wait: NEIL ALEXANDER6 HARBURY (COLIN5, ESTHER MAY4 HAYSACK, BARNETT3 ISAACS, DAVID MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Angie Harbury moved into their beautifully restored house on the Royal Crescent in Bath, UK after four years of work . Evangeline Harbury has a new job – freelance Food Stylist Assistant and works extensively with Mary Berry on TV and books in the UK.

Paris in summer: Jane Isaacs Toussaint (MYRON SAMUEL5, STANLEY MYER4, MYER SAMUEL3, SAMUEL MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) of the USA will be celebrating her 75th birthday on 20 March 2018 and will be taking her family to Paris, where she lived for a couple of decades, for a week in June.

Artificial intelligence: Jake (Jacob) Lever (SAMUEL7, TIMOTHY6 Lever ARNOLD5, SAMUEL JOSEPH4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) graduated July 2017 from Exeter University with a 2:1 Honours degree in Maths, and is now studying for his MA in Artificial Intelligence at Nottingham University, in the UK.
The Big 8-0: Anthony Joseph (related through a female marriage into the Isaacs family) celebrated his 80th birthday party in Birmingham, UK with a big party 23rd April 2017.
A return to the colonies: Tamaris Lever (TIMOTHY6 Lever ARNOLD5, SAMUEL JOSEPH4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Andy Gooday of the UK travelled to Lake Tahoe, California to enjoy the unprecedented snowfall in March 2017, and then in Sep 2017 to British Columbia to stay with friends and enjoy mountain biking and hiking in Whistler.

Intercontinental visit: Andrew Southwood (HELEN JENNIFER6 SIMMONS, HAROLD LEWIS5, JENNIE4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Sally Ann Southwood traveled from their home in Canada to South Africa to visit his mother Jen Southwood.
The Big Bang Theory: Every other year at Christmas time, members of the American Isaacs branch (MYRON SAMUEL5, STANLEY MYER4, MYER SAMUEL3, SAMUEL MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1)– 34 this past December including a few in-laws but no out-laws — gathered in Los Angeles, California, USA, for an enjoyable time together.
Sailing against the wind: Richard Young (married to JILL6 IDA GILBERT, GILBERT FREDERICK5 ISAACS, FREDERICK4, MYER LEWIS3, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) of the UK has passed his exam for the theory part of RYA Day Skipper Certificate and this summer in the Ionian Islands takes a one-week course for the practical part.
Put a Cork in it: Michael Southwood (ANDREW7 SOUTHWOOD, HELEN JENNIFER6 SIMMONS, HAROLD LEWIS5, JENNIE4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) graduated from Concordia University, in Montreal, Quebec in July 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Urban Planning. He applied to do his Masters in Sustainable Urban Development at the University of Cork in Ireland in August and was accepted as one of only two non EU applicants. It is a two year program and is affiliated with the Royal Academy of Town and City Planners.
An Artist: Enid Futterman, partner of John Graham Isaacs (TERENCE MYER5, FREDERICK4, MYER LEWIS3, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1), has a musical theatre piece Yours, Anne, based on Anne Frank’s diary, was produced at Half Moon Theatre in Hyde Park NY in March-April 2017. And after 16 years, Enid and John share the same address.
High school sweethearts: Kristen Burdett (HELEN JANE7 SOUTHWOOD, HELEN JENNIFER6 SIMMONS, HAROLD LEWIS5, JENNIE4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Greg Hunter are getting married at Kirknewton House Stables, Scotland, on Saturday 8th September 2018. They have been together since high school and are marrying after 13 years together.

In June 2014, John & Amy Isaacs of Washington, DC, USA, visited ANDREW BASIL HUGH SOUTHWOOD (HELEN 6JENNIFER6 SIMMONS, HAROLD LEWIS5, JENNIE4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) , his wife SALLY-ANN WALMSLEY and children Hannah and Michael in Montreal, Canada. The Southwoods originally lived in South Africa before emigrating to Canada. Also visiting at the same time was Jen Southwood from South Africa, Andy’s mother.
In May 2014, John & Amy Isaacs of Washington, DC, USA, visited EDMUND SYDNEY FOSTER6 LEE (RALPH BRUCE5, LEVI, EDMUND4, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1), his wife Clare and son Colin in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. The Lees originally lived in South Africa before emigrating to Clare’s hometown of Minneapolis.
Congratulations to HANNAH LEIGH8 SOUTHWOOD (ANDREW BASIL HUGH7 SOUTHWOOD, HELEN JENNIFER6 SIMMONS, HAROLD LEWIS5, JENNIE4 LEVI, ANN3 ISAACS, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) of Montreal, Canada for graduating from the Unversity of Windsor with a Bachelor’s degree in 2013 and Queens Univerity with a Bachelor of Education in 2014. Next year she will teach in Mexico.
ERIC SAMUEL7 BOORSTIN (LENI BARBARA 6 ISAACS, MYRON SAMUEL5, STANLEY MYER4, MYER SAMUEL3, SAMUEL MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) and Sarah Mircheff produced a baby boy; Bennett Kosta Boorstin was born in May 2014.
ANTHONY JOSEPH reports that his third son, Harry, was married on 22nd February 2014 to Jessica Milbourn. Also, his last remaining aunt (and also his step-mother because his father married two sisters sequentially, the younger one being a widow at the time his mother died) passed away in Birmingham, UK on 8th May 2014. She was 95. Anthony’s connection to the family in addition to attending the first Isaacs Family International Reunion in Cambridge, UK (2005): David Myer Isaacs married Esther Levy (Colin Harbury’s ancestors). Esther was a first cousin of Anthony’s great-great-grandfather, Barnet Lyon Joseph (1801-80). More distant links are to David M Isaacs’ brothers, Samuel Myer Isaacs and Lewis Myer Isaacs. Both these brothers married Anthony’s more distant cousins. Got all that? Also, Anthony helped with some of the original Isaacs family tree research and got various branches in touch with each other.

1. Daughter Hannah Isaacs has now taken up the post of Assistant Head teacher with special responsibility for mathematics and overall teaching and learning at Hodge Hill Secondary School in Birmingham.
2. Daughter Naomi Isaacs has been promoted to the post of Senior Consultant at Fishburn, a London-based communications agency.
3. Edward has given up being a housing consultant and now focuses on his artwork and illustration, having had work shown recently at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery and Wolverhampton Art Gallery. He also helps run a small arts festival in Wolverhampton.

They got together after exchanging e-mails for a number of years. Ed and Clare used to live in Cape Town, South Africa and Clare was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. KATHLEEN MARY LODGE ISAACS, wife of the late TERENCE MYER5 ISAACS (FREDERICK MYER4, MYER LEWIS3, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1), who was born March 28, 1914 in London, England, died at age 99 in Wolverhampton, UK, on July 27, 2013. She is survived by sons John Graham Isaacs of Claverack, New York, USA and Edward Frederick Isaacs of Wolverhampton, UK and two grandchildren, Naomi and Hannah Isaacs. Kath, as she was known, was one of the nation’s first radar operators and staffed a radar station in Dover during the Battle of Britain in World War II. Read more about her here.

Kathryn reports that her mother has mostly recovered from various health issues and will celebrate again with her family.
DAVID CARGILL5 ISAACS (DAVID NATHAN4, NATHANIEL JOHN3, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) of Wanganui, New Zealand, born in 1929, married to Judith Dean Isaacs for 57 years, died 30 August 2012 after a heart attack six weeks earlier. Prudence Isaacs reports that all of his children, grandchildren and great grand daughter came and went over the 4 weeks he was in hospital and all shared stories and watched a lot of Olympics!

ANTHONY GILBERT (GILBERT FREDERICK5 ISAACS, FREDERICK4, MYER LEWIS3, LEWIS MYER2, MYER SAMUEL 1) of Edinburgh, Scotland reports that he is now retired from his job as Senior lecturer in mathematics at Edinburgh University, although he is doing some tutoring.
COLIN5 DESMOND BERNARD HARBURY (ESTHER MAY4 HAYSACK, BARNARD DAVID3 ISAACS, DAVID MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1), husband of MARGARET GRAHAM PROCTOR and parents of Claire and Neil, died 31 August 2012, with much family at his bedside. Neil reports that Colin “died a month after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. You may think it was a short time but I want you to know that he had a lovely month and was in very good spirits right to the end. He was very brave and without pain and he was at peace, content with his life and sharing stories about family and friends.” There will be a service at 3:45pm on Wednesday 12th September at the West Suffolk Crematorium in Bury St Edmunds, followed by a gathering at Pakenham Village Hall. Anthony Joseph will attend the service and will read the Kaddish in Hebrew.
EDNA FRANCES5 LELYVELD (SAMUEL4, FANNY3 ISAACS, JACOB MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) of Norwich, United Kingdom, husband of Harry George Foord, parents of Susan, Timothy, Timothy, Stephen, Richard and Elizabeth, died suddenly on 11 August, 2012, while Liz and Nick Cotton were visiting. She was buried as St Peter Hoveton, a beautiful, tiny, thatched church built in 1624 and about 10 minutes walk from her house.
ERIC SAMUEL7 BOORSTIN (LENI BARBARA6 ISAACS, MYRON SAMUEL5, STANLEY MYER4, MYER SAMUEL3, SAMUEL MYER2, MYER SAMUEL1) married Sarah Mircheff on August 25, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. This being Los Angeles, the ceremony was performed in a place called The Smog Shoppe and the wedding hotel was The Farmer’s Daughter. Numerous Isaacs and Boorstin relatives attended a warm and wonderful ceremony presided over by a federal judge for whom Eric worked.
MARIE (Miriam or Micky) ELKS GILBERT of London, United Kingdom, and mother of Jill Gilbert Young and Anthony David Gilbert, died on May 25, 2012, just short of her 100th birthday. Her spunk and charm was a hit at the 2005 Isaacs Family Reunion in Cambridge, UK.

An exhibition of his scarves was shown at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, USA (Beauty as Duty: Textiles on the Home Front in World War II Britain) in March 2012. His son Timothy Lever and Elaine Lever traveled from Beachampton, Bucks, UK to Boston to view the exhibition. As did John Isaacs.

The wedding was performed in Salem, Massachusetts, USA, until then known particularly for the Salem Witch Trials during colonial America. Karine’s brother Paul Toussaint officiated at the wedding. Besides Karine’s family, other Isaacs family members in attendance were John, Amy, Rachel and Stanley Isaacs, Eric Boorstin and his fiancee Sarah Mircheff, Ariel Boorstin and Eli Isaacs and his girlfriend Kathleen Peters.
